Adolescents

Adolescence is a time of growth and change. Adolescents undergo significant physical, cognitive, social and emotional development, and these can bring about their own unique set of challenges. Adolescence is also the time of onset of several metal health issues that can impact lifelong functioning.

 

Common issues that arise in adolescence include:

  • Problems with emotional regulation

  • Risk taking behaviour

  • Peer group relationships

  • Family conflict

  • Academic performance

  • Sexual identity

 

Katrina has worked with children and adolescents for several years. Her approach to therapy is about building a relationship in a relaxed environment. She understands that teens need to feel safe and comfortable to be able to engage in therapy. Katrina works one-on-one with teens who are 16 years and above and is transparent in her approach to allow more openness in the therapy relationship. Katrina focuses on building resilience so that teens can develop lifelong strategies to cope with the pressures of daily life.
